Infection controls and universal precautions protect clients and staff alike. Everyone benefits from rigorous infection control — you, your dentist, and the dental team. The cornerstone in a good and safe dental practice is the element of trust. You should feel free to discuss this topic with Dr. Kogan or Dr. Silverman and receive a straightforward answer.
Drs. Kogan and Silverman, and our entire team follow procedures recommended by several federal agencies: the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). These measures include:
- Every patient fills the COVID-19 Questionnaire. We ask everyone to stay home if they think they may be sick. Please let us know if you don’t feel comfortable filling this Covid questionnaire.
- We space out appointments and promote social distancing at all times. During your dental appointment we protect you and our staff.
- We limit extra patients’ companions on their trip to our office to only essential people.
- Patients let us know when they have arrived, and wait in the car. We call or text when they should enter the practice. We still prefer everyone wears a mask while in the office. We’ll provide you with a face mask if you don’t have one. We walk patients straight to their operatory.
- Waiting room: we changed our furniture, no cloth, so it’s easier to wipe down. All magazines and toys have been removed.
- New air purifiers throughout the office, with HEPA filter and UVC light.
- Disinfectant hand soap, hand sanitizer, gloves, tissue and masks available for everyone.
- PPE: Face shields, masks (N95 and surgical ones), goggles, disposable gowns.
- Chemical disinfection of floors, countertops, surfaces, and equipment.
- Powerful extra-oral suction units in each treatment room to limit aerosols around you. These protect you (not wearing a mask during dental cleanings or dental treatment), other patients, and our staff.
- Sterilization of instruments and handpieces before every use.
- Disposable materials throughout the office. If you use a pen, you take it :).
- We use an autoclave to sterilize all reusable equipment, including dental hand pieces. An Autoclave is a device that kills bacteria and viruses by steam, heat and pressure.
The best defense against disease is information. The more you know, the better equipped you are to make wise decisions about your health care. The more you know about our daily procedures and policies, the more comfortable you will feel. Please let us know if you have any questions.
