First Visit

During your initial appointment we will listen to your concerns. We will review your medical and dental history, examine the overall health of your teeth and gums, and perform an oral cancer screening. We will also take x-rays if you need them.

If you need dental treatment, we will always discuss treatment options and provide you with the information you need to make informed decisions.

If you have an emergency, usually treatment can be done or started the same day as the consultation. However, if it’s not an emergency, treatment  may be started on  another day.

If you are due for a dental cleaning, that is, if you haven’t had a cleaning for at least 6 months, then the first visit should ideally be scheduled for a dental cleaning and exam. You will then meet one of our two wonderful hygienists, and the dentist will perform the initial examination on that day.

If you would like a second opinion, Dr. Kogan and Dr. Silverman will be happy to perform an evaluation, discuss treatment options, and recommend the treatment they would recommend for a member of their own family. They will provide you with the information that you need to make an informed decision.

When you call our office to schedule your first visit, our front office staff will help you set up the kind of appointment that you need.

Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your consultation:

  • Any x-rays taken by a previous dentist, if applicable.
  • A list of medications you are presently taking.
  • If you have dental insurance, please bring your insurance card. You can also fill the Patient Registration forms at home and submit them online. This will save time and allow us to help you process any claims.

IMPORTANT: All patients under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Please alert the office by completing your medical history if you have a medical condition that may be of concern prior to treatment (i.e., diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves and joints, rheumatic fever, etc.) or if you are currently taking any medication (i.e., heart medications, aspirin, anticoagulant therapy, etc.).

X-Rays

If your dentist or physician has taken x-rays recently, you may request that they forward them to our office. We use digital radiography (x-rays) and can view other digital x-rays sent to us easily.
